Welcome to another Wacky Wednesday project – clever ways to get creative with Christmas card crafts.

These projects are a great way to avoid adding to the ever growing piles of rubbish on our planet. Have you read my post How to Win by Avoiding the Bin?

So first things first, DON’T THROW OUT YOUR CARDS.

The cards are the main materials needed for these crafts.

You will also need scissors and glue.

LET’S GET CREATIVE WITH CHRISTMAS CARD CRAFTS

MATERIALS

  • Christmas cards
  • Coloured, unpatterned paper – I used metallic green and blue paper.
  • Thick cardboard
  • Pencils
  • Scissors
  • Circle templates such as plates. bowls, glasses
  • Glue
  • Christmas ribbon

METHOD

  • Use a plate to trace a circle on some heavy cardboard.
  • Cut out the circle.
  • Place a smaller bowl in the centre of your circle and trace around it.
  • Cut it out.

  • Use a glass or cookie cutter to trace and cut out circles, of varying sizes from your cards and coloured paper.
  • Glue the Christmas paper circles around the cardboard circle, being sure to cover the cardboard completely.
  • Glue the card circles on top of the paper.
  • Add Christmas ribbon to hang.

LITTLE HOUSES

You can make sweet little houses, tiny enough to hang on your Christmas tree, but large enough to hold a battery tea light candle, by following the instructions here.

GIFT TAGS

By cutting out various elements of a card you can make beautiful gift tags that cost nothing. Try cutting some extra circles when you make your card wreath, then use a hole punch to make a hole at the top of the tag and add Christmas ribbon to it. A cute addition to any gift.

GIFT DECORATIONS

Use a letter stencil to trace letters on the cards. You can form words such as “JOY” or the first letter of the recipient’s name.

Another great way to use the cards is to make beautiful birds. You can find out how in my post, Clever and Creative Christmas Wrapping Ideas (it includes a template).

MINI TREE TABLE DECORATIONS

These are the ultimate in recycling – and so cute.

The base is made of bottle tops. You could add a person’s name to the bottom of the tree for sweet place name markers.

I hope you enjoyed these ideas and they have inspired you to hang onto those old cards.

Happy crafting and have a gleeful week, Tamuria.
