CLEVER AND CREATIVE CHRISTMAS WRAPPING IDEAS

creative Christmas wrapping picture

Welcome to another Wacky Wednesday project. This week’s projects are to add a bit of fun to your Christmas wrapping.

Have you noticed that the cheap Christmas paper is getting thinner and is ripping more easily while the expensive paper is becoming, well, more expensive?

For me, nothing beats brown paper packages tied up with string (these are a few of my favourite things) yet at Christmas, it’s fun to jazz up the gifts, even if you don’t resort to all the glitter and glitz that is part of the season.

HOW TO MAKE MUM SMILE WITH THESE PRETTY PICTURE PLANTERS

The perfect way to display artwork.

Welcome to another Wacky Wednesday project – making Mum smile with pretty picture planters.

With Mother’s Day just around the corner, the challenge is to find something new that will put a smile on her face.

Those of you who read my post Gifts To Make Mama Cry will know I’m all about giving the emotional gift instead of buying into the commercial hype and (possibly) getting something that will not be as cherished.

This usually means a bit of creativity is required but the steps in this week’s projects (yes, there’s a bonus gift idea) are so easy that all you need is the ability to glue.

HOW TO MAKE GODDESS OF GLEE FRIENDSHIP DOLLS

Welcome to another Wacky Wednesday project – Goddess of Glee friendship dolls.

goddess of glee friendship dolls picture

February is International Friendship month according to a bunch of internet sites – though I’m unsure if this is official.

The United Nations International Friendship day is celebrated on July 30, then there’s National Friendship Day on the first Sunday in August, Women’s Friendship Day is on the third Sunday in August as well as Old Friends, New Friends Week and Best Friends Day  –  so there are plenty of opportunities to celebrate friends.

I like to try and celebrate friendship every day. I do this by sending text and email messages to let people know I’m thinking of them, sharing images I know my friends will enjoy, phone calls, lunch dates, greeting cards and general caring.

There are some wonderful crafts that can be made to celebrate friendships and their importance – I’ll share some links at the end of this post.

This week’s project comes with a free, downloadable template for the doll and a little poem you can include in a card if you choose.

GODDESSES OF GLEE FRIENDSHIP DOLLS

Years ago I did a TAFE course designed to help women gain the skills and confidence to re-enter the workforce after being stay at home mums.

At the end of the course, I wanted to give the other ladies, as well as the teachers, a gift to celebrate what we had achieved and the new friendships made.

I came up with the Goddesses of Glee – individually decorated paper dolls which I put on a card containing poems written specifically for each person.

They were a lot of fun to make and the recipients loved them. They would make a fun project to do with kids (though they may not want to give them away once they’re made) and a great craft for tweens to celebrate their friends.

LET’S GET STARTED

SUPPLIES

  • Goddess template
  • Thin cardboard
  • Wool, ribbon, feathers – for hair
  • Googly eyes
  • Heart shaped metallic shapes
  • Paper fasteners
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Markers, pencils
  • Sequins, glitter, gemstones.

METHOD

  • Download your template
  • Cut out the template pieces and use to trace outline onto cardboard
  • Cut out the cardboard outlines

Use the template to help you cut out the doll pieces.

  • Fold the body section in half (indicated on the template by broken lines).
  • Attach the arms and legs using the paper fasteners

Use paper fasteners to attach the doll’s limbs and use glue to attach the head.

  • The fun part – decorating

    My Goddess making a Goddess

  • Add hair to suit your friend – colourful feathers are fun to represent an outgoing, party style friend. Colourful ribbons can celebrate a friend’s fun personality, wool is good for more conservative friends.
  • Glue on the eyes and mouth – you can draw the mouth but as the whole project represents friendship love, I like using the little hearts.
  • Add sequins, glitter, buttons, gems and other adornments to suit your friend’s personality. I like to add earrings (just use a small chain link) and necklaces sometimes.

Decorating decisions can be so tough.

Now, if you’re good with rhyming words you can make up a little poem to suit your friend, or write your own special un-rhyming message, or you can download my Goddess of Glee poem here.

There is a very sweet and easy to make friendship bracelet at Kidlutions: Solutions for Kids.

Have fun with this, and don’t forget to share.

Wishing you happy friendships and a gleeful week, Tamuria.

My budding artists

They made all this in less than 30 minutes

Do you have some budding little artists in your life? Do you feel like you’re drowning in their artwork?

Once kids get started they can produce art at an alarmingly fast rate. Before you know it you have literally hundreds of pages of paintings and drawings.

Once they hit preschool and start bringing more home, you could be looking for a larger house just to accommodate all the art.

I once resorted to wallpapering a door to use up butterfly paintings my sons did when they were young.

4 FATHER’S DAY GIFTS TO MAKE IN UNDER 15 MINUTES

EASY FATHER’S DAY GIFTS TO MAKE

FATHERS DAY GIFTS PICTURE

Welcome to another Wacky Wednesday project. This week we’re getting ready for Father’s Day with some really quick and easy Father’s Day gifts to make.

Father’s Day as we know it is not even 100 years old, but some scholars believe its origins are rooted in tradition more than 4000 years old.

Some say it can be traced to the ruins of Babylon where, it has been recorded, a young boy carved a Father’s Day message to his father out of clay.

The modern day version originated in the USA and then spread to other countries around the world. Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of every June in the USA but for us, in Australia, it is just around the corner (September 6).

While it was originally intended as a day of tribute it has also morphed into a commercial feeding frenzy where the sales of socks and ties skyrocket.

If you think Dad or Grandad has enough of these accessories and may want something more sentimental then you are in the right place.

GIFTS TO MAKE MAMA CRY

85TH BIRTHDAYS

mama cry picture

It was a huge year for birthdays in our family this year. All remaining great-grandparents are celebrating their 85th year.

85,  what a milestone!  Party time!

My in-laws live interstate but Mum is nearby so it made sense to plan a party.

I chose the theme of flowers as it has special meaning for my Mum and me. (Be sure to check out Wacky Workshops for a wonderful flower related craft). I made flower-shaped food and flower party bags and decorations.

The only thing left to do was buy the gift. Easy right?
