A MEANINGFUL FATHER’S DAY GIFT TO MAKE

A meaningful Father's Day gift to make

Welcome to another Wacky Workshops project – a meaningful Father’s Day gift to make.

Do you ever get the feeling Father’s Day is less about celebrating dads and more about rewarding retailers?

In fact, it was retailers who ensured the continued success of the day, which originated in America in 1910.

Like so many of our cherished special days, Father’s Day is a boon for retailers but its original ideal is often lost in the frenzy of what to get for dad.

Some say it can be traced to the ruins of Babylon where, it has been recorded, a young boy carved a Father’s Day message to his father out of clay.

The modern day version originated in the USA and then spread to other countries around the world. Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of every June in the USA but for us, in Australia, it is just around the corner (September 6).

While it was originally intended as a day of tribute it has also morphed into a commercial feeding frenzy where the sales of socks and ties skyrocket.

If you think Dad or Grandad has enough of these accessories and may want something more sentimental then you are in the right place.
