Welcome to other Wacky Workshops project – making a pot of gold. We may not all be lucky enough to find that wonderful pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, but it’s a pretty magical trick to turn a piece of hessian into a pot of gold.

POT OF GOLD

In the meantime, I’m going to show you how to make that pot of gold. It even has its own rainbow.

LET’S GET STARTED

SUPPLIES

  • Small piece of hessian
  • Black spray paint
  • Newspaper
  • Plastic wrap
  • Craft glue
  • Water
  • Scissors
  • Cardboard
  • Markers/paint
  • Green ribbon
  • Rainbow template or small glass
  • Stapler
  • Rubber band
  • Chocolate coins or gold-covered chocolate.

METHOD

  • Scrunch a piece of newspaper into a ball shape and cover with plastic wrap. The plastic stops the glue from sticking but also helps the newspaper keep its ball shape.
  • Mix the glue and water – about 50/50 mix.
  • Cut the hessian into a circle that will fit around the ball and soak in the glue mix for a few seconds, ensuring the whole piece is covered with glue.

Soak the hessian in the glue mix.

  • Place the newspaper ball in the centre of the hessian circle and fold up the hessian edge, then hold in place with a rubber band.
  • Leave to dry overnight.
  • Meanwhile, make your rainbow.
  • You can use the edge of a small glass to get the right shape or download my printable rainbow here.

Use the template to make your rainbow.

  • Use stiff cardboard for your rainbow and use the markers or paint to colour.
  • When the glue is dry, the hessian will be stiff. Gently remove the rubber band and newspaper and the hessian should hold its pot-like shape.

When the hessian is dry it will be stiff and hold its shape.

  • Trim the edge of the Hessian
  • Paint the ‘pot’ with black spray paint.
  • When dry, tie a green ribbon under the pot rim.
  • Use a stapler to attach your little rainbow and fill the pot with chocolate coins or chocolate wrapped in gold (I used Ferrero Rocher).

These are really fun to make and are wonderful little gifts for the Little People in your life. I hope you enjoyed this craft. If you did, let me know in the comments. Check out my Pinterest page for more great craft ideas. Happy crafting and have a gleeful week, Tamuria.
