Welcome to another Wacky Workshops project – a no-sew heart pillow.

HEART PILLOW PICTURE

Funny how decorative pillow prices can range from a few dollars to $20 or $30. You can sometimes find the little square ones in the cheap shops for $5 and I’ve even snapped up some bargain pillows for $2 each.

Yet, when I looked for a heart-shaped pillow recently, I couldn’t find anything less than $20.

As I already had a specific material I wanted to cover it in, I wasn’t prepared to spend this so decided to convert one of the square pillows I already had.

I’m not a fan of sewing so try to avoid it whenever possible, which is why I came up with the no-sew heart pillow.

NO SEW HEART PILLOW

LET’S GET STARTED

Start with a cheap square pillow
SUPPLIES

  • A small, square pillow
  • Material – about four times larger than the cushion and it needs to be the kind that doesn’t fray.
  • Scissors
  • Needle and thread – no sewing, promise. Just some stitches.

METHOD
  • Grab one corner of the pillow and secure a stitch in it (I know I said this was a no-sew project and it is, you just need to make a few stitches at the start to help hold everything together).

Use string or thread to secure your heart shape.

  • Pull that corner right down into the opposite corner and secure with a few stitches.
  • Tuck in the edge material around the untouched corners to round them. Now you should have a basic heart shape.
  • Cut your material in half.
  • Place your pillow in the middle of one half of the material and cover with the other half.
  • Cut the material, following the pillow’s outline, into a heart shape – do not cut the material close to the pillow, you need a lot of material to do the next step.

Make cuts in your material, in towards your pillow, following its shape.

  • Cut slits from the edge of the material towards the pillow, all around the shape.
  • Tie the bottom material slits to the top slits all around, forming a fringe and enclosing your pillow.
  • Trim the fringe if necessary.

Happy crafting and have a gleeful week, Tamuria.
